It's looking like the TV show "The Big Bang Theory" may become a reality series, of sorts.
Jim Parsons, one of the show's geek protagonists, is working on creating a television series that profiles real-life young geniuses, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series will be based on a YouTube show by the THNKR channel called "Prodigies."
"I knew within a few minutes of viewing my first episode of 'Prodigies' that I wanted to be a part of the team bringing the digital series to a wider audience via television. Spending time with these geniuses, these children; soaring and struggling with their gifts and their talents is inspiring and entertaining in a way that great television is," Parsons said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "'Prodigies' reveals something about the human spirit with such joy and insight, which is why it achieved such a passionate following on the Internet."
The show will feature young people such as Santiago Gonzalez, a 14-year-old programmer and software developer who's already created 15 iOS apps (see video below), and Kelvin Doe, a 15-year-old engineering genius from Sierra Leone who's built his own radio station out of spare parts he found in the trash."The Big Bang Theory" is known for bringing in real-life geniuses for cameos on the show. In 2010, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak made an appearance on the show. And physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking made his debut on the TV series last year.
The THNKR channel has roughly 100,000 subscribers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Parsons is currently shopping the "Prodigies" TV show idea to cable and broadcast networks.
